Op zondag 24 september is het zo ver Just Peace Open Dag 2023. Den Haag zal deze gehele dag in het thema staan van vrede en gerechtigheid! Verschillende (inter)nationale organisaties zullen hun deuren openen voor publiek. Leer, bekijk en ervaar hoe deze plekken werken aan Vrede en Recht!

Een kijkje terug in de tijd... In mei en juni stonden er drie thema's centraal: de Week van de Rechtsstaat, Wereldvluchtelingendag en Hague Justice Week. We hebben inspirerende mensen gesproken en samen met jullie delen van de stad ontdekt waar we nog nooit waren geweest.... |

Week van de Rechtsstaat
Begin juni vond de Week van de Rechtsstaat plaats. Daarom openden een aantal instellingen in Den Haag op zaterdag 3 juni hun deuren voor het publiek, om gasten een kijkje te geven in de wereld van de rechtsstaat in Nederland: ons systeem voor een ordelijke en rechtvaardige samenleving. Wij organiseerden twee rondleidingen langs onder andere de tweede kamer, de Hoge Raad en het Kabinet van de Koning. Lees hier hoe dat is gegaan! |

Den Haag is dé juridische hoofdstad en de internationale stad van vrede en recht, maar wat gebeurt er eigenlijk achter de muren van die gebouwen en wat drijft de mensen die er werken? Wij spraken met mensen uit verschillende lagen van onze rechtsstaat; Chiel Lentz, wijkagent in de Vogelwijk in Den Haag en Pieter-Bas Beekman, woordvoerder bij de Raad van State. |

Wereldvluchtelingendag Dinsdag 20 juni was het Wereldvluchtelingendag; de dag waarop we stilstaan bij de moed, veerkracht en vastberadenheid van miljoenen vluchtelingen die gedwongen zijn hun land te ontvluchten. Wij spraken met Betsy Schouten, voormalig spreekuurmedewerker voor het Wereldhuis en tevens werkzaam voor de noodopvang voor ongedocumenteerden in Den Haag: “Het frustreert mij dat er zoveel talentvolle mensen naar Nederland komen die vervolgens achter de geraniums worden gezet.". Hague Justice Week Als onderdeel van de The Hague Justice Week hebben we een speciale Just Peace Movie Night in samenwerking met Hague Talks georganiseerd met als onderwerp 'milieurechtvaardigheid'. Dankzij Movies That Matter en de geweldige sprekers - Jojo Mehta, Mert Kumru, Vishal Prasad en Lúis António Monlane - was het absoluut een inspirerende avond. Heb je dit evenement gemist? The Just Peace Open Day 2023 will take place on September 24! The city of The Hague will be full of activities around the themes of Peace and Justice. Various well-known (International) organisations will be opening their doors to the public, so you can get a peek behind the scenes, and how they work on Peace and Justice across the world!

And a quick look back... We explored three important themes throughout June and July: the Rule of Law Week, World Refugee Day, and Hague Justice Week. We spoke to plenty of inspiring people, and discovered impactful initiatives and ideas across the city... |

Rule of Law Week Rule of Law Week took place at the beginning of June. As part of the week, various important national institutions opened their doors on June 3 for the public and guests to get a look into how Rule of Law is maintained in the Netherlands: the system that makes for an orderly and fair society that follows its own laws.
Just Peace organised two tours that weaved through the city and took in (amongst others) the Tweede Kamer, the High Court, and the Kabinet van de Koning. Check out how it went here!

The Hague is the legal capital of the Netherlands, and the international city of peace and justice, but what actually happens behind the doors and walls of the buildings you might walk past each day? We spoke to people from various different facets that make help underpin Rule of Law in the Netherlands; Chiel Lentz, a local police officer in the Vogelwijk in The Hague, and Pieter-Bas Beekman, spokesperson at the de Raad van State. |

World Refugee Day World Refugee Day took place on June 20: a day to consider the needs, experiences, and treatment of millions of refugees across the world, who had to leave their countries. We spoke to Betsy Schouten, a former case worker at the Wereldhuis, who now works on emergency accommodation for undocumentd people in The Hague. "It frustrates me that there are so many talented people that come to the Netherlands, that are left out in the cold." Check out the interview here.
